Zone Read

Discussion of the footwork of the Pistol RB or QB.

Zone Read

This will be my first year running this offense and I was just wondering if anyone runs any zone read from the pistol offense. I am considering runnning this with midline steps. Any information from those of you would be greatly appreciated.

We run it with veer steps. The HB will get the ball at the veer mesh and wrap around the QB in the opposite direction.

Pistol Pratley do you run it in the 1 back, 2 back, or both sets. Also, can you explain the steps and what you mean about the back wrapping around the QB.

We are exclusive 1 back. We will step to inside veer to the right. For us that is a 45 step for our QB, and the RB will run a 45 degree path toward the butt of the guard. The RB Will take the Handoff and wrap around to the left and look for a seam.

The QB will read the DE. If end crashes, the QB will pull. Otherwise the QB will give the ball to the RB.
