Trap

Discussion of the footwork of the Pistol RB or QB.

Trap

Postby K on Wed Feb 20, 2008 3:13 pm

I've asked this on Huey's board but I've never gotten a great answer to my question. Anyone wanna draw up their RB/QB's footwork and explain it to me?

I've tried about a million things and have yet to get it to work nearly as well as under center.

I would be happy to draw it up. We run it like we run veer. We show veer left. Our QB opens at 45 degrees to veer. The HB takes veer steps then bends the ball back to follow the pulling guard.

Hey coach thanks for both the post and the email.

From the diagram you're handing it off at the same moment your dive back is making his trap cut? Pretty simple to the reverse pivot inside handoff that we've been doing but probably less problematic. Your QB & Slot are still carrying out the option fake correct?

Right, the QB almost wraps the read with the RB and we continue on the option path.

What have you guys done withn running trap with two backs? We have run more of a belly look, pulling the PSG and kicking out. PST down to DT or 5 tech DE. Then, it hits outside.

Anyone done the trap to the FB out of two backs and give to FB and fake option with A back?

We run our Two back trap the same way. We just use the other back as the pitch man.

Enclosed our Trap/Counter.

Trap can be done as a G-Trap (Guard pulls into 4 Gap)
Counter as you see enclosed (guard pulls wide ILB Weakside will stay unblocked)

Works under-center and in the pistol

Coach K--

Nearly every play that we run is Triple Option. There are very few that we just run an option with QB and HB, and even fewer that are called hand-offs.

Coach W-- Thanks for the great posts. Keep up the good work.

This is way off topic, but where do you guys get the software to illustrate your plays like the ones you have posted? As for your diagram on the trap, I like it. What I did last year is somewhat simialr however we ran no veer what so ever. How vital is incorporating the veer to this offense?

No need to by any software (if you have the money go) I use Powerpoint if someone needs a Temp for themself I can do so, I have already down one for Shocktroop and he really liked it:

P.S: Anyone who has send a request for pistol stuff to me or asked via PM, I will get back to those requested asap - have a ton of work at the moment!
