Postby paydirt18 on Tue Aug 19, 2008 5:52 pm

Coaches, as the HS season is about the begin, I would like to start a new topic where we could post how productive (or unproductive) our respective offenses are doing......2007 was my first year installing the pistol and now with 08 almost here I am frickin' excited to see how my team has improved.....so post your stories, good or bad.....tell us what seems to be working and what areas you need help in......I look forward to reading the future posts!

We had our first game we won 46- 14 I use the pistol with airraid principles. We Passed for 6 td no int's and ran for one(side note: we had 3 called back on acount for holding) we went 17-31 had 451 yards passing and 178 yards rushing in our rushing attack we ran bunch toss for big gains and we ran stretch out of bunch just to change it up. Our screen game was on fire never seen it work that good. I go alot of empty so I hope that u pistol purists don't shoot me, still at 3 yards though. my pistol goaline personnel called rhino was very effective i recommend using it thanks to coach Kulhman for that one.

The rhino package is our shortyardage offense it has the traditional Pistol alignment with respect to the qb and Tailback. WE use one tight end and we have two up backs Rhino and H they align on the inside foot of the guards. We run iso power and counter..and have a few deadly actions of of the plays So far we have Scored several 2pt conversions and had 2 rushing td's not to mention moving the chains...inside the five we go Rhino. From this point on pistoleer's I will never go under center again. I am convinced that it is completley outdated...as I write this we are curently 2-0 u can see stats and highlights on our league website
www.midgetfootball.ca
our final score of that game was 62-0, o Can't take all the credit for the scores. We had two Special teams TD's and and 1 int for a td.

Well we lost week 1 last night by a score of 55-12. But before you react understand that we gave them 28 points. We played a better team and if we played them 10 times we would be lucky to win once. BUT they are not 43 points better. The errors came from special teams and defense primarily. Offensively speaking my QB was efficent going 16 for 21 and 143 yards, 2TD. My RB had 19 for 113. Most of the damage by both of these guys was done off of zone read. 6 of the QBs completions were the bubble concept off of the zone read. As I said we played a superior team, this team was the state runner up last year so we had our work cut out for us. Despite the loss it was a positive day and we kept the kids focused. If we maintain our play level as we did last night, without a doubt we should win next week.

Coach,

Loved those clips on You-Tube of your kids. The Rhino scheme is a good one....who care if the opponent knows that you only have 4 or 5 plays from that formation...it can be great when you need a yard or two per play.

We won our first game last Friday night 20-7. Our defense played well. Offensively, we did well with our bubble (ran 11 times for 10 competions and 52 yards) and with our play action roll (ran 6 times for 49 yards.)

Our best play was the inside veer. FB carried 13 times for 67 yards and TB was 19 for 157.

We have always been a two back offense, but one thing that we are now tinkering with is to go three backs in a row (like an eye.) We usualy align our H next to the Q and then the A at 7 yards behind the Q. Now, we are meshing our eye with the pistol (3 guys at 3, 5, and 7 yards). We like the belly and the veer from this. Does not allow the Defense to get any sort of tendency on what we are doing.

I've been thinking about the I Out of pistol. and as much as I love the pistol I can't help throwing the ball. so i might not explore that one this year.

As i write this we are now 3-0 defeating last years champions and Hated rival 29-23. shouldn't of been that close but we had a crazy weather game must of dumped 5 inches of rain on us and we had some starters miss practice this week so they saw very limited playing time(we make them sign contracts to this effect at the beginning of the year miss a practice sit out a half, miss two u don't dress) and missing those guys definetly hurt us at times. We were actually trailing by a touch down going into the fourth quarter and we put together two long drives to score two unanswerd TD's some of the catches my kids made were amazing we wern't to be denied...hadn't seen my team sell out like that ever it was a good measure of our character.

Yeah doug i've been running one play inside the five where we zone up front and leave the end and the QB reads said end if he crashes we pull it with the option to run or pass after we get outside. If the end keeps contain we just smash it in there.

tough loss coach sounds like u had the offensive productionso if that team was that much better then uso be it but sounds like u had many positives on offense. congrats on that and lets put another win in the pistol forums next week coach.

oh one last thing thanks coach Kuhlmann ur insights on this offense in our past discussions has been a great benifit to my philosophy and pistol system. again thank you and congrats on ur win

The highlights should be on our league website from our last game check them out. and don't shoot me for going into empty backfield so much...i can't help it. hard to shake the airraid roots.

Lets keep this thread up i like it. and i like the fact that were able to show that we aren't another cooky offense and that we can get it done.

cheer's

We are running the I out of the pistol this year. I toyed around all off season with the pistol and still wanted two back so I went to the I. We played our first game last week and gained over 300 yards on the ground and over 450 total yards of offense while scoring 47 points. So far so good.

We won week 2 by a score of 46-22. Gave up 15 points in the 4th by our #2s. Offensively this was our biggest output since installing the pistol. We finished with 490+ total yards with 263 coming on the ground. Specifically, we ran zone read and dart and just ate them up as we run a bubble concept for the QB serving as a third option. This is the first year we have added that to those runs. As a result our QB is now 77% on the year (33-43) with 6TDs to 1INT. Big test will come this weekend agaisnt the defending conf. champs. Hold the Rope.

good job paydirt thats really good to see your offense firing like that, we are now 4-0 my QB's stats are on our league website www.midgetfootball.ca last game I ran the ball once, we went no huddle empty back field for the most part, the team we played went 4-4 cover 0 the whole game, we could of tried to run the ball but the no huddle option was easier. Besides it's fun to call the plays as the defense is already aligned. we have a buy week this week gave the boys tuesday off and wednesday we are paintballing as a team. doses anyone else run the no huddle? Think I might start a thread

How is everyone's season going with the pistol? We have gotten more out of our passing game that we expected...tossing it around 20 times per game. We are struggling with midline from the pistol in our option scheme, but our OV is becoming an increasingly productive play. We are also not getting much from the trap or our FB dive. What does everyone else do to make it hit quicker?

We have been toying around with three different backfield alignments...
1. straight eye (this is our favorite and gives no tells to the defense)
2. rock (lining up in the deuce in the backfield)
3. An offset FB with a TB in the eye.

Our timing is different in the 3, but we only use about 2-3 running plays that can be used in those various backfield alignments.

Thru 3 weeks, we are unfortunately 1-2. BUT if I were to put a finger on it,, it is the defense-they are not up to the same speed our O is at-I have faith we will improve. Speaking of the O, we have managed to gain 1,041 yards thru those three games.....better than I expected. Our back has gained 340 on the ground while our QB has thrown an amazing 73% and 547 yards!

In response to the previous poster, we are an ace back pistol, we then run a lot of doubles, bunch, and trips which is giving opponents fits! All of our pass game is either quick or sprint out. IN terms of run we have dart, inside zone, outside zone, and occassionaly trap. In the first two run concepts we are essentially running triple option as our QB first reads the chase player for the give, then if keeps reads the invert for bubble, it is deadly! I just dont have the personel for 2 back stuff and for what we have the things we are doing are awesome.
